Philip Aseweh Drafted By Houston Dynamo

Liberty University striker Philip Aseweh was drafted by the Houston Dynamo in the third round of the MLS Supplemental Draft today. He will join the team for their preseason camp and go up against some of the best in the MLS.

Aseweh Named to All-Region Team

Liberty midfielder Phillip Aseweh was named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I  South Atlantic Region team.

Aseweh was selected to the team for the first time, playing a key role for 2011 Big South Champion Liberty University. Liberty finished the year with an 11-6-3 record.

Named to the squad’s second team, Aseweh was selected to the Big South All-Conference first team for the second consecutive year in 2011. The midfielder started all 20 games for the Flames this season, compiling a team-leading 22 points on seven goals and eight assists. He finished the year tied for the lead in assists and fourth in points in the Big South.  In addition, the senior ranked 18th in the nation in assists.

During the season, Aseweh was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week and Big South Attacking Player of the Week for Sept. 21.  He also earned selection to the SoccerAmerica Team of the Week for the same week. During the prior seven days, the midfielder scored three goals and recorded an assist, as Liberty defeated No. 10 Virginia, 2-0, and Howard, 4-0.

In addition, the Navrongo, Ghana native became the second Liberty men’s soccer player in program history to be named to the prestigious Capital One Men’s Soccer Academic All-America University Division national team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Philip Aseweh Named Capital One Academic All-American

Liberty’s Phillip Aseweh has been selected to the 2011 Capital One Men’s Soccer Academic All-America University Division team for his excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field. The midfielder has been selected to the second team.

Aseweh becomes the second men’s soccer player in program history to be named to the prestigious national team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior midfielder joins former defender Mike Gelatt, who became the first Liberty student-athlete to be selected to two CoSIDA Academic All-America first teams, being selected to the men’s soccer squads in 2007 and 2008.

Aseweh becomes the 17th Liberty student-athlete to be honored by CoSIDA as an Academic All-America team. A native of Navrongo, Ghana, the midfielder was a key component of the 2011 Big South Champion Flames, who finished the year with an 11-6-3 record. Off the field, Aseweh has excelled in the classroom, currently maintaining a 3.71 GPA in accounting. He had been named to the Capital One District III men’s soccer first team and the Big South all-academic team each of the past two years.  He has been a Dean’s List member every semester of his academic career at Liberty and has earned mention on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll each of his prior two academic years. Aseweh was named to the Virginia Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in 2008.

Philip Aseweh Named National Player of the Week

Liberty University midfielder Philip Aseweh was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA national player of the week on Wednesday.

Aseweh scored three goals and an assist last week as Liberty defeated No. 10 Virginia 2-0, and beat Howard 4-0. He had not scored this season before those two matches.

He scored once at Virginia to give the Flames a two-goal lead against the Cavaliers and he followed that performance up with five points in the win over Howard.
